Proverbs 28:14 AMP Blessed (happy, fortunate, and to be envied) is the man who reverently and worshipfully fears [the Lord] at all times [regardless of circumstances], but he who hardens his heart will fall into calamity.
Proverbs 28:14 The Message A tenderhearted person lives a blessed life; a hardhearted person lives a hard life.
A tender heart versus a hard heart. This proverb sets the two at odds with each other, like hot and cold.
I looked up a definition for hardened and the one that jumped out at me is "to make callous". Something that is callous is also tough - interesting. The heart of a man as the bible describes is also considered the spirit.
I was getting ready yesterday morning and flipped on the TV and came across Andrew Womack who was talking about this subject. While I didn't capture the entire message, his point on the hardness of heart really jumped out at me. I considered it at points during the day yesterday and it came up again this morning as I was considering my entry for today.
When doing a little bit of research, I came across a page that has Mr. Womack's condensed version of this teaching. Here is a link if you would like to read in depth - http://www.awmi.net/extra/article/hardness_heart
What I got out of my personal meditation on the topic yesterday was that as I continue to spend time in the Word, my heart will grow tender to the Word and to the Lord. It's a simple principle really. If you spend time considering anything more than other things you will gravitate more to the thing with the most attention.
As I spend more time in the Word, considering it and not so much the world - I find that my heart is growing tender to it and hardening toward the worldly mechanics of things. I'm also find that I am developing a Godly caring for my wife and my children as well as others in my family and church family. It is literally changing me from the the inside out. What an awesome thing to be renewed and to grow. More info on this to come.
